The Echo top data can be viewed by clicking the Echo Tops layer within the Weather Layers. An arrow will appear over the storm indicating the direction of movement. The arrows are color-coded based on the type of activity detected in the storm cell by NEXRAD. The echo top is located at the tail of the arrow.
Heavy Rain |
General storm. No hail, rotation, or tornadic vortex signature (TVS) has been detected. |
Severe Hail |
Hail has been detected. |
Dangerous T-Storm |
Mesocyclone – Rotation detected at multiple levels in a storm with wind and/or wind shear. |
Possible Tornado |
Tornadic Vortex Signature (TVS) – Indication of a possible tornado. Strong wind shear has been detected in a very small area and is usually associated with a potential tornadic circulation within a thunderstorm. |
Only the storms with the highest tops will be displayed. This will not be dependent on the severity of the storm.
